About Nesina (alogliptin)

Nesinais considered a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, which functions by inhibiting DPP-4, which increases levels of active incretins, which in turn stimulates insulin release. This results in a decrease in fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels. Nesina is taken in correlation to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Nesina is available only by prescription. It is available in a generic formulation under the name, alogliptin, as well as under different brand names, including Vipidia Kazano, Vipidomet (with metformin) Oseni, and Incresync (with pioglitazone)

Nesina may be prescribed as tablets. It’s always important to follow the specific instructions on your prescription, as they can vary based on the formulation and dosage that you are prescribed. Nesina comes in the following dosage forms:

  • 6.25 mg tablet

  • 12.5 mg tablet

  • 25 mg tablet

If you are prescribed Nesina, be sure to complete the full course of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor unless your doctor specifically tells you to stop.

If you don’t complete your prescription, the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor may not fully treat your type 2 diabetes.
