About Prandin (repaglinide)

Prandin (repaglinide) is an oral blood glucose-lowering drug used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with diet and exercise. It works by stimulating insulin release, which helps the body properly use blood glucose from the diet.

Prandin is available only by prescription. It is available in a generic formulation as well as under different brand names, including repaglinide.

Prandin may be prescribed as a tablet. It’s always important to follow the specific instructions on your prescription, as they can vary based on the formulation and dosage prescribed.

If you're prescribed Prandin, be sure to complete the full course of the blood glucose-lowering drug unless your healthcare professional specifically tells you to stop. If you don’t complete your prescription, the blood glucose-lowering drug may not fully treat your type 2 diabetes.

Prandin uses

Prandin is FDA-approved to treat type 2 diabetes, but your doctor may also prescribe it off-label to treat other medical conditions.

  • Type 2 diabetes

Prandin is FDA-approved to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes in combination with diet and exercise. It is not recommended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
