About Avelox (moxifloxacin)

Avelox belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones, which work by stopping the growth of bacteria. Like other antibiotics, Avelox cannot effectively treat viral infections or fungal infections.

Some conditions that Avelox is known to treat include bacterial infections of the lungs, stomach, sinuses, and skin. Avelox is available only by prescription. It is available in a generic formulation known as moxifloxacin, as well as under different brand names.

Avelox may be prescribed as a tablet or injection. It’s always important to follow the specific instructions on your prescription, as they can vary based on the formulation and dosage prescribed.

If you're prescribed Avelox, be sure to complete the full course of the antibiotic treatment unless your doctor specifically tells you to stop. If you don’t complete your prescription, the antibiotic treatment may not fully treat your bacterial infection.
