Frequently Asked Questions
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes refers to people whose bodies either don’t produce enough insulin or don’t use insulin the way they should. Insulin is normally produced by the pancreas. Someone with type 2 diabetes will experience a build up of glucose in their blood as the lack or misuse of insulin fails to transfer it to the cells. Too much glucose in the bloodstream can lead to serious health concerns including damage to nerves, eyes, heart, kidneys and blood vessels.
Risk Factors For Type 2 Diabetes
- Obesity. Being overweight is the most important risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Losing weight if you are obese is the best way to lower your chances of developing the condition. Weight loss should be done in a controlled and intentional manner. Make sure to consult with your doctor before deciding to lose a significant portion of your body weight.
- Age. Your risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases as you get older, typically around 45.
- Family history. Nobody picks their genetics, so the most you can do is talk to your family and doctors to plan prevention methods and know the symptoms to look for.
- Pregnancy. Gestational diabetes only occurs during pregnancy. Although it goes away after pregnancy, approximately half of women who had gestational diabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 15 years following their pregnancy. It is recommended to be screened for gestational diabetes after the 24th week of pregnancy.
What is Type 1 Diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes commonly diagnosed in childhood and adolescence, it is a condition where a person’s pancreas produces no insulin because the body’s immune cells attack insulin-producing cells called beta cells. Since cells need insulin to get energy from glucose, people with type 1 diabetes need regular injections of insulin to manage the levels of glucose in their blood and use it for energy. It is possible for adults to develop type 1 diabetes.
Cause of Type 1 Diabetes
The cause of type 1 diabetes is genetic. In type 1 diabetics, the immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. Why this happens is still unknown.
What are the symptoms of Prediabetes?
Pre-diabetes means somebody has a higher than normal blood sugar level, but it isn’t high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Pre-diabetes typically doesn’t cause any symptoms. Some people with pre-diabetes may develop dark spots or skin tags on the armpits or on the back and sides of the neck.
Symptoms of Diabetes
Symptoms will vary depending on how high the blood sugar is. Some of the symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes are: Increased thirst, frequent urination, extreme hunger, unexplained weight loss, presence of ketones in the urine, fatigue, irritability, blurred vision, slow-healing sores, frequent infections, such as gums or skin infections and vaginal infections.
Those with pre-diabetes or the early stages of type 2 diabetes may not experience symptoms whereas symptoms of type 1 diabetes typically come on fast.
How is Diabetes Treated?
Diabetes is treated with a combination of healthy diet, exercise and medication. Management of type 2 diabetes includes: Weight loss, healthy eating, regular exercise, blood sugar monitoring, medication, insulin therapy via drugs like Apidra.

DR. Allan Marks has helped my daughter two times and we cannot recommend them enough. My daughter has ADHD and can't wait in a waiting room forever. This was the fastest and easiest way to get my daughter diagnosed and pick up a script. One time we used this service when no other doctor was open. Plush care was available! My daughter didn't have to even leave the house in 6 degree weather (would have made her MORE SICK). She had severe sinus infection and Dr. was not only clear and nice but looked up holiday pharmacy hours ahead of time to make sure I could pick up the script in time! AWESOME! 2nd time went just as smooth. Thank you!

Wow. Wow. Wow. This is so easy and quick. I had a cold virus that turned into a sinus infection. I pulled over on my way to a meeting to video chat w a doctor. He was attentive, kind, and efficient. After a few questions, he diagnosed my ailment. The call took less than 10 mins. Prescription was at the pharmacy later that day. I will be a client for a long time. Thank you.

I never review Apps, but this has been the quickest and most convenient doctor experience(s) I’ve ever had. It cost me no more than what I would have paid to visit an office. I’ve had two appointments and one was done in the comfort of my own living room and the second on my break at work. As a full time worker, full time student, and full time mom, the convenience cannot be beat. I met with Dr. Saremi who is very personable and kind. He immediately resolved my reasons for calling during both appointments. He was competent and trustworthy and valued my time. Can’t recommend this enough.
